Steam Wallet Limits: Balance Cap, Order Size and Spending Rules
A Steam wallet holds up to about $2,000, or the same value in the wallet currency. One login top-up order adds from $0.65 to $850. Here is how the limits fit together and how to plan larger amounts.
The limits at a glance
| Limit | Value | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| Steam wallet balance cap | About $2,000 or the same value in KZT or UAH | Steam |
| One login top-up order | $0.65 to $850 | SteamTopup |
| One crypto credit payment | $30 to $5,000 ($20 minimum in lower-income countries) | SteamTopup |
| Orders in a row | Several; up to 10 can be processing at once | SteamTopup |
The $2,000 wallet balance cap
Steam limits how much money a wallet can hold at one time. The cap is about $2,000, and for tenge or hryvnia wallets the same value in that currency applies. Steam also counts all accounts of one person together for this limit.
The cap is about the balance, not about spending. When you spend $300 on games, you can add $300 again. If a top-up would push the balance over the cap, plan it as a smaller order or spend part of the balance first.
How much one order adds
Each order sends from $0.65 to $850 to one wallet. Enter any amount in that range with cents, or tap one of the quick amounts from $5 to $100. For larger amounts, place several orders in a row; each one is priced separately at $0.8843 per wallet dollar.
- $60 for a new release: one order, price $53.06.
- $300 before a big sale: one order, price $265.29.
- $1,200 for a gaming club: two orders of $600, price $530.57 each.
What wallet money can buy
- Games and DLC in the Steam store, including pre-orders.
- In-game items sold through Steam checkout.
- Steam Community Market purchases.
- Gifts for friends through the Steam store.
Steam wallet funds stay inside Steam. They cannot be sent to another account or paid out as cash, so top up the amount you plan to spend.
Planning a large top-up
- Check the current balance next to your profile name.
- Subtract it from $2,000 (or the value in your wallet currency) to see the room left.
- Split anything above $850 into several orders.
- Add credit once with crypto to cover all orders, and use the first top-up bonus from $100.
Ready to add money? Open the Steam top-up form, enter the login and the amount, and see the price before you pay. Answers about orders and credit are on the FAQ page.
